What is jig borer machine?

A jig borer, sometimes called a jig milling machine, is a precision machine tool used to drill holes and (sometimes) to grind complex shapes and holes in dies, molds, and other precision parts. The machine consists of a motor, a spindle, a quill, and a table. The spindle and quill are mounted on a moveable head that slides up and down on a vertical column. The table is mounted on a moveable cross-slide that can be positioned in both the X- and Y-directions. The machine is used primarily in the manufacturing of tools and dies, and in precision engineering applications. Jig borers are highly precise machines that can drill holes with an accuracy of up to 0.002 inches (0.05 mm) and can hold tolerances of up to 0.0001 inches (2.5 microns). They are generally used in high-volume, high-precision manufacturing applications, including in the aerospace, automotive, and medical device industries.
